Art Therapy

In 2006, NYS began licensing art therapists (LCAT) as licensed mental health practitioners. There are approximately 1,800 licensed arts therapists practicing in NYS.

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creative expression through art-making to help individuals explore emotions, process experiences, and foster personal growth. By engaging in the artistic process, clients can access feelings and thoughts that might be difficult to express with words alone.

This therapeutic approach encourages self-reflection, enhances coping skills, and promotes healing in a nonverbal, intuitive way. It is effective for individuals of all ages and can be used to address a wide range of mental health challenges.

No artistic ability is necessary.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy technique designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. By using guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR allows the brain to reprocess distressing memories, reducing their emotional impact and helping individuals gain new perspectives. It is particularly effective for treating PTSD, anxiety, and other trauma-related conditions.
